Q. About your current responsibilities

I'm mainly in charge of affairs at the airline company's branch agency. That includes all business procedures, as well as hands on customer service at the check-in counter and boarding gate. When needed, I even help out with airline business outside of what I'm assigned to.

Q. Things that you find rewarding or important

Persevering no matter what happens so as not to lose motivation is key. Things can get hectic, but every day eventually comes to an end, so I believe it's important to stay calm and look at things objectively in any situation.

Q. Tell us about your experience when you first joined the company.

When I've made one mistake after another, I'd try to think of it as starting from square one and not feel down; instead tackling it by doing everything I can do within my power currently like actively learning the knowledge needed, or trying to communicate my ideas to my senior colleagues about how to make the task more efficient.

Q. Tell us about a memorable episode from your work.

When I started working at the airline I was assigned to the domestic air route. One time a heavy snowstorm overwhelmed the entire airport and there were successive flight cancellations. With my poor English skills at the time, I had to explain the current situation and outlook to a foreign couple who were having a hard time understanding what was happening. Another day, when flights were up and running again, I met that couple again at the boarding gate and they gave me a souvenir keychain from their country as a gift, saying "we can go home thanks to you, we're truly grateful." That was my first time experiencing something like that and it made me incredibly happy.

A message from the employee

CAST (currently Hokkaido Airport) is an enjoyable workplace. There's a lot of difficult work, but there's just as many times where I feel that it's worth doing. There may be a conception that the flight industry is high profile and hard to enter, but please be confident in yourself and try to work hard with job hunting; fully show off all the things you've worked at and learned until now. The results will surely follow.
