Q. About your current responsibilities

My wide-ranging duties include flight monitoring (where I monitor the position of aircrafts and transmit information to the relevant sections via radio, etc.), receiving the check-in status of passengers on a flight and the weight of their checked-in baggage, weight and balance operations (where I calculate the weight of baggage and cargo to be loaded in the lower cargo compartment of the aircraft in order to determine their loading positions), preparing loading instructions, as well as other duties such as making adjustments in response to changes in aircraft parking areas and checking the weather conditions around New Chitose Airport.

Q. Things that you find rewarding or important

I feel a sense of satisfaction whenever I am able to communicate with ramp handlers, passenger handlers, and other relevant sections in the event of deteriorating weather conditions so that departing flights can be sent out safely.

Q. Tell us about your experience when you first joined the company.

When I first joined CAST (currently Hokkaido Airport), I was tasked with performing check-in operations under the Passenger Services Group instead of the Flight Operations Section that I am currently in. I remember working alongside my colleagues at the time to handle flight cancellations whenever a flight departing from New Chitose Airport was unfortunately canceled.

Q. Tell us about a memorable episode from your work.

Providing flight information on weather conditions and the airport, such as the wind direction and speed, visual range, etc., is of paramount importance for the safety of flight operations. Since many departing flights are delayed due to heavy snowfall, I remember the joy I experienced when an airline's flight crew greatly appreciated my help for ensuring that their flight could depart safely after I accurately provided them with advance information on snowfall forecasts and snow removal along the runway.

A message from the employee

I believe it is not easy to imagine the nature of work that is involved in flight operations, but it is a very rewarding job that involves coordinating between various parties behind the scenes to ensure that aircrafts can depart and arrive safely. I hope that you are interested in this line of work as well, as the work environment here is one in which both men and women can play active roles.
